In Conversation With; OP Keshari, District President of BJP Garhwa

You were a social worker. What prompted you to switch to active politics of the BJP?

Look! there are two major reasons, of which the most important was the groundswell that I could see into it. Overall social work is resembled with politics at many stages, and electoral politics is the solution to it. For last several years, my area is not as much developed as it should be – there is huge possibility of development in the areas from where I come. The people of Bhandariya are still deprived from many things; though all these progresses should have been in place. Our people have reposed faith in me; many of them wanted me to join the politics first and then be inducted into the electoral politics. If I would have to say; it is people for whom I joined the same.

You were appointed as the convenor of the BJP in 2014 general elections, and in-charge of state election of subsequent year. What impact this brought in ?

As a party convenor I performed my duty during the elections, and I am fortunate that we won both polls state and centre. My duty was to protect party's interest and ensure that BJP candidate wins this election. Whenever, party gave any responsibility – I tried my best to deliver that and you see numbers of accomplishment we bags. Although, it was tough to perform during a time when you are not in power; but its love of the people who supported us at the time we need. As far as 'impact' is concerned, it is the party leadership to decide on what has been given to me which I delivered excellently.

List down your achievements as District president of BJP.

It wouldn't be okay to say 'self praise is not recommended', rather people like you must see and do a fair analysis about that – however, since you have asked this questions let me explain bit of it. It was 25th February 2016, when I was appointed as the 'District President' of Garhwa, since then I have number of achievements, including wining two consecutive elections with huge margin – we performed better than before during the 2019 general election, despite lot of hue and cries, opposition united, but people voted us to power. And I am sure that our party do well in upcoming state poll. Apart from it, we gained much beyond the expectations, got unprecedented support in our party's membership drive and lot more. 'Laughed' however, I again request you to go in public and ask about me, people will tell you the answer more than me.

Isn't it difficult for you to reconcile BJP's ideology with your socialist background?

Let me correct you that the ideology of socialism is not different from the ideology of RSS and BJP. Socialist leaders always wanted that the last man in the queue should be the first beneficiary, which is defined by the philosophy of 'Antyodaya' propounded by Deen Dayal Upadhyay. The core ideology which drives politicians from all walks is the larger interest of the people and that intent is the biggest binding force. Means can be different but ends are the same. Besides, this I had a great bonding with several RSS and BJP leaders.

You have a great rapport with CM Raghubar Das and other BJP leaders, nobody seems opponent with BJP, how do you manage all these stuffs?

Laughed at, you see I began my social life since my childhood; I am proud to be 'Bal Swanksevak' subsequently joined by Banwasi Kalyan Kendra, which taught me to be calm, collaborative, humble, free from all odds. RSS taught me the way of life, maintain the relation with others, discharge duties etc.

While, leadership of Raghubar Das Ji has taught me alot. His simplicity has impressed me alot in last many years, other words, If I could say, Raghubar Das ji is my real hero, role model He is a visionary and dynamic leader. Under his leadership, the state has grown up by leaps and bound. Das ji has immense sense of spotting people. I am fortunate that I am getting unstopped support from him.

I have the idea to step in after through consultation with all party's members, officer bearers, and public representative. So I am also thankful to them for the love they have for me.

BJP is the biggest party today. What if the party doesn't respond to your expectations as you might be thinking of contesting upcoming state polls, which constituencies you will prefer?

I have no expectations at this stage. The leadership is doing its work for the people and it is good enough for a person like me to feel satisfied. As part of the party, I have to explore a role for myself and associate with the process of nation building, which is absolutely unconditional. As far as assembly seat is concerned – our people are pressurising to contest from my native which is Bhandariya assembly areas, but this is not yet decided. Lets have a faith in leadership.
