BJP Coalition Hopes to Retain Power

Ranchi: As the Election Commission (EC) is likely to announce the poll schedule for the Jharkhand Assembly at 4.30 pm today. At present, the state is ruled by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), under the leadership of chief minister of Raghubar Das with an alliance with the All Jharkhand Students' Union (AJSU).

In 2014, the BJP mount to power after winning 37 seats, while its alliance partner AJSU had got five assembly seats.  The combined tally was enough for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) to mark the majority of 41 seats.

The BJP is hoping to retain power in Jharkhand following setbacks and winning fewer seats in both the Maharashtra and Haryana Assembly election than it did in the 2014 polls.
