Section 144 Imposed Across Uttar Pradesh; NBA Issues Advisory to all Editors

Lucknow/New Delhi: Amid the prevailing situation in the country due to Ayodhya verdict day, the Uttar Pradesh government has taken extra precaution. The outcome of one of India's most significant and sensitive litigation will be known today when a five-judge Constitution Bench, headed by Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi, rules on appeals challenging a 2010 order on the title to the disputed Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid site in Ayodhya.

On Friday, hours before the Supreme Court notified the Saturday sitting, Gogoi met Uttar Pradesh Chief Secretary Rajendra Kumar Tiwari and Director General of Police Om Prakash Singh in his court chamber.

On the other side, media body NBA is also issuing an advisory for all editors of NBA and said that extra care and caution "needs to be exercised to ensure that the telecast of any news relating to it should not be sensational, inflammatory or provocative."

The statetment further said that the "basic guideline to be adhered to during telecasting news is that all such news should conform strictly to subserving the public interest of maintaining communal harmony and preservation of the secular ethos of the country."

Issuing a list of guidelines, the NBA said that "no visuals need be shown depicting celebration of protest by persons" in respect to the Ayodhya matter.
